Succession at CEML

On Friday, August 7, 2026 Michael and I were present at the succession ceremony as CEML Hospital appointed a new medical director. Michael’s Uncle Dr. Stephen Foster officially turned over his duties to Dr. Sam Fabiano, an Angolan (and also a relative) with post-secondary training in the US and Russia. The ceremony was at 9 am in an open air facility on the grounds of the hospital. There were many local pastors and community leaders in attendance along with hospital staff, with the Lutheran Bishop (and hospital advisor) a witness on the signing of the changeover document.

This special two-hour ceremony also had preaching on Moses and his successor Joshua, presentations and talks by Steve Foster, Sam Fabiano, Alberto Sozinho Freitas (the CEML’s Executive Director) and others, two corporate worship songs “Vamos Nos Trabalhar” and “Confiado No Senhor” in Portuguese, special music in English and a local tribal language Umbundu, prayers and laying on of hands, followed by a lively receiving line where the incoming and outgoing medical directors greeted the crowd.

Michael and I were pleased to attend and filmed and photographed the entire event. View his video on YouTube here. https://youtu.be/bflqvwmmQ7Y?si=1iGJjv6UREOeDpaI
